    The nice weather is finally here again and with it comes the second annual Team Jameson fishing trip. We went out last year and it was a great day of fishing, fun and remembrance. There are 60 spots available on the boat. Reservations will be first-come first-serve based on payment received.

    The Northern Ohio Firefighters would like to thank Representative Dave Greenspan for sponsoring Ohio House Bill 38 to protect fire fighters. The bill passed the Ohio House of Representatives and will now be heard in the Ohio Senate.
    2017 Recruit Class Graduation

    The 2017 Recruit Class graduated from the Quincy Fire Academy on Thursday.  These 27 new recruits bring staffing back to levels the Quincy Fire Department hasn't seen since 2003.  These new firefighters will attend the O2X Health and Wellness training next week and start at their assignments throughout fire stations in Quincy on Saturday, May 27th.

    Westport Firefighters responded to an early morning house fire on April 24th This morning, the Westport Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 189 Cross Highway. The call came in from a trapped occupant reporting a fire in the house. The Westport Fire Department responded with all 11 firefighters and 4 officers on duty, along with Westport Police and EMS.

    I am sadden to report the death of Brother William J. “Billy” Sanchez. Billy was a longtime leader and former President in New Orleans Local 632. The funeral arrangement are for Thursday May 18, 2017 at Lake Lawn Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartain Blvd., New Orleans. Visitation from 9-11 am with a Mass to follow.     Garth Goodwin

    If you would like to help, please Click Here to Donate! Garth Goodwin, a 17 year veteran of the Waco Fire Department, suffered 2nd degree burns and a severe spinal cord injury while working off duty. He was performing routine maintenance on an elevated billboard sign and came in contact with high voltage power lines that caused him to fall. Unable to move his legs, he laid there for an extended period of time until someone who lives close to the scene discovered him and called for help. He was transported to Hillcrest Hospital in Waco then air lifted to Parkland Hospital in Dallas where he is currently receiving treatment for the extensive injuries he suffered. A long term diagnosis is still unknown. The entire Goodwin family appreciates the overwhelming concern and support for Garth. Of course all prayers and well wishes you'd like to pass along are appreciated more than you will ever know. Garth's circle of family and friends reaches far and wide and he needs us all now more than ever. Thank you again and we will post updates as soon as we can.     FDA Approves Radicava to Treat ALS

    I have some exciting news to share with you: The FDA just approved the first drug in 22 years to treat ALS - the second treatment ever for the disease. Edaravone (brand name Radicava) is an anti-oxidant drug thought to preserve motor neurons in people with ALS, allowing the nerves to keep their muscles working for a longer period of time.
